This will be a hands-on African inspired tie dye workshop where participants will learn the traditional Yoruba resist dyeing technique known as Adire Oniko. This method involves tying fabric in different ways to create patterns before dyeing it using indigo and other natural dyes.
During the workshop I will explain how the dyeing process works, demonstrate the tying techniques used to create different patterns, and introduce participants to the meaning and inspiration behind traditional African textile patterns. Each participant will create their own dyed fabric piece to take home. They are also welcome to bring there own cloths.
The workshop is suitable for beginners and anyone interested in textiles, craft, fashion, or learning about African textile traditions.
